Design of SSSC-based Stabilizer to Damp Inter-Area Oscillations Using Gray Wolf Optimization Algorithm

A new metaheuristic method, the Gray Wolf optimizer algorithm based on the foraging behavior of Grey wolf is proposed in this paper for optimizing stabilizer parameters. The optimal stabilizer is applied to static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) for Inter-Area oscillation damping. There are two different channels for controlling of phase and magnitude of the injection voltage. When the SSSC is used for damping of inter-area oscillations, a SSSC-based stabilizer can be included in both channels. The proposed method was applied on a two-area four-machine power system. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the method in optimal SSSC-based stabilizer tuning.
